Scouting just off the road led to the discovery of the site of a sizable battle and wreckage, which confirmed that the party had located the site of the ambush of the missing delegation from Mirabar that the Guild of Merchant Adventurers appeared very interested in. The party’s guide, Ser Roland, vowed to return to Summit Hall and report, returning with forces to recover the bodies.
The battle appeared to have included dozens of well-equipped human guards against a sizable force of Bugbears or other goblinoids supported by some kind of magic wielders. The site was littered with craters as if the earth itself had been pummeled by boulders from a great height. Shallow graves were found at the site.
The party was quite alarmed at confronting the 40 or so Bugbears that their trackers estimated made up the ambushing force.
Tracks led further West, eventually leading to the banks of the Dessarin River itself. It was clear that a number of boats were used to move the attackers and any prisoners and booty onwards – but where they had gone, it was unclear. The river upstream leading towards Beliard and Triboar was navigable but well-travelled and civilised. The river South wound through the Sumber Hills arriving, eventually, at Womford and The Bargewright Inn. The party made camp and planned their next move.
